Amy & Paul’s first dance song - “Real Good Hands” by Gregory Porter - was such a unique, perfect selection. I have it in my head still this morning!
I would find this an amazingly perfect father-daughter song. “It Won’t Be Like This for Long” by Darius Rucker. *Sobs*
Dollar dances are few & far between as the Eastern European tradition has gradually gone by the wayside in the past few years… but I can’t help but think of them every time I hear this song on the radio. It would make me chuckle as a wedding guest!
This will be a cute song for weddings… upbeat first dance? Cake cutting… etc! Your guests will be bop-bop-bopping! #beyonce #wedding
Litany by Billy Collins
You are the bread and the knife,
the crystal goblet and the wine.
You are the dew on the morning grass
and the burning wheel of the sun.
You are the white apron of the baker,
and the marsh birds suddenly in flight.
However, you are not the wind in the orchard,
the plums on the counter,
or the house of cards.
And you are certainly not the pine-scented air.
There is just no way that you are the pine-scented air.
It is possible that you are the fish under the bridge,
maybe even the pigeon on the general’s head,
but you are not even close
to being the field of cornflowers at dusk.
And a quick look in the mirror will show
that you are neither the boots in the corner
nor the boat asleep in its boathouse.
It might interest you to know,
speaking of the plentiful imagery of the world,
that I am the sound of rain on the roof.
I also happen to be the shooting star,
the evening paper blowing down an alley
and the basket of chestnuts on the kitchen table.
I am also the moon in the trees
and the blind woman’s tea cup.
But don’t worry, I’m not the bread and the knife.
You are still the bread and the knife.
You will always be the bread and the knife,
not to mention the crystal goblet and—somehow—the wine.
@dbaumgart’s dad & cousin Jon played “Kindness” by @MrDavidWilcox at our ceremony - three years ago today!
We don’t see garter removals & tosses as much lately but for those still wanting to do one… “I’m Sexy and I Know It” would be a fun song to use for it!
Despite the “something dumb to do” and other casual lines, I anticipate this to be a popular song at weddings soon! “Marry You” by Bruno Mars.
This song had the dance floor PACKED at @sairarahman ‘s wedding. I hadn’t heard it before & now it’s stuck in my head. MUST PLAY LIST!
Song of Songs 2:8-10, 14, 16a; 8:6-7a
i read this at a friend’s wedding in 2001. i was reminded how much i liked it when this week’s bride chose it for her ceremony.
Stern as death is love.
A reading from the Song of Songs
Hark! my lover–here he comes
springing across the mountains,
leaping across the hills.
My lover is like a gazelle
or a young stag.
Here he stands behind our wall,
gazing through the windows,
peering through the lattices.
My lover speaks; he says to me,
“Arise, my beloved, my dove, my beautiful one, and come!
“O my dove in the clefts of the rock,
in the secret recesses of the cliff,
Let me see you,
let me hear your voice,
for your voice is sweet,
and you are lovely.”
My lover belongs to me and I to him.
He says to me:
“Set me as a seal on your heart,
as a seal on your arm;
For stern as death is love,
relentless as the nether world is devotion;
its flames are a blazing fire.
Deep waters cannot quench love,
nor floods sweep it away.”
